    Chefs & Catering Hats

Find the chef’s hat that best suits your needs in the kitchen and even customise it if you wish to make sure your team are fully branded up at work.

There is no more iconic sight in the food and drink industry than the traditional, tall chef’s hat. There are a number of different rumours about its origin, with suggestions that kitchens of the past operated a ‘the taller the hat, the more important the employee’ system. Another tale is that Henry VIII beheaded a chef after finding a hair in his soup, so the replacement took to wearing a hat to ensure it never happened again.

The truth of the matter is that the tall chef’s hat, or ‘toque blanche’, is so designed because it allows the air to circulate above the head and acts as a heat outlet, which is much needed in a busy kitchen.

In addition to these pieces of headwear, there are a range of other chefs’ hats available. Zandanas fit snugly on top and around the side of the head, tying at the back. They are lightweight and comfortable, feature cooling panels to allow the heat to escape and come in black or white.

Skull caps are another form of chefs’ hat that are hard wearing and comfortable. They rest on the head and feature eyelets to help the heat circulate and keep the wearer cool. As with most other chefs’ hats, these are designed to be washed at hot temperatures on an industrial scale and to remain in shape and looking smart, whatever they are put through in the kitchen.
