Fleeces
Fleece jackets are a perfect workwear and uniform addition for the colder months, providing an excellent level of insulation for warmth on cold days. You can wear fleece jackets on their own or as part of your layering, depending on the conditions and the activity you are undertaking. As workwear they are suitable for anyone who works outdoors for large stretches and are also popular with walkers, climbers, cyclists and others.
Although they are named after the sheep’s fleece coat, the fleece that is used in jackets is a synthetic fabric designed to keep you warm whilst you go about your duties at work or head off on an adventure.
There are a huge number of advantages to a fleece jacket. They feel extremely soft and comfortable to wear, as well as being incredibly lightweight. This makes them ideal workwear, as they do not irritate or scratch after being worn for an entire shift, and they do not sit heavily as you try to complete physically demanding tasks. Coats made from fleece are also breathable, which makes them easy to wear and avoids any trapped moisture that could otherwise occur.
Air pockets sit between the threads of the pile, which appears on both sides of the fleece fabric, which help it keep in the heat in cold environments. Although it is not waterproof, a fleece jacket makes a fantastic warming layer beneath a light waterproof overcoat. The advantage of having a light waterproof over a fleece undergarment is that, once the rain passes, you can take off the waterproof and keep the fleece, which makes your clothing less bulky and allows more mobility.
If you wore a waterproof coat that had its own fleece lining, your only choices would be to wear the full, bulky and restrictive item all the time, or nothing, which would make you susceptible to the cold. You can also add base layers under the fleece if you need to.
Fleece jackets come in a variety of different sizes, styles and thicknesses, depending on the requirements of your job or task.
