    Further Information on Respiratory Protection

Dust masks are the most basic form of respiratory protection, but they are very clever items. They provide a tight seal over the mouth and nose to block out the dangers in the air. Then they use filters and valves to feed you the clean air you need. If you work in joinery or any other industry where you might kick up dust and shavings as part of your job, a dust mask is an invaluable bit of kit whether you use disposable or reusable models.

Respirators take the work of dust masks up a notch when it comes to respiratory protection. These are usually reusable, although you will normally need to change the filter. But that is an easy enough task. They attach to your face using an adjustable elastic strap (often latex free with those who have an allergy in mind) and cover your face and nose, providing increased filter efficiency.

Different respirators work in different ways. You can find air fed respirators that receives breathable quality air through a tube from a compressor, whilst cartridge respirators clean the air of dangerous particles as you breathe. You can also find specific chemical or gas respirators to deal specifically with those hazards.

Take a look at the selection at Xamax to find the respiratory protection that you need for you business.

There are a huge range of different types of respirators on the market, all of which work in slightly different ways to make sure that you can breathe clean air whilst you work. From simple dust masks to those that protect against chemicals and gases, others that are fed from a compressor, and others that convert the air in the respirator to clean breathing air, there is a model that will suit you, your job and the environment in which you work. When you know there are airborne hazards in your workplace, respirators provide a simple and effective answer.

Whichever type of respirator you choose, you need to maintain it to keep it working at its full potential. This means keeping filters fresh and changing after use to make sure it is ready to go again. You should also be sure to fit respirators correctly. They need to form a tight seal with your face at all times during use to ensure there is no way for the harmful particles to infiltrate your respiratory system.

Most respirators are designed to feel as comfortable as possible when fitted correctly to the face, with real consideration being made to how they feel against the face of the user. Wearing the respirator correctly allows you to go about your work without distraction, whereas an ill fit respirator might feel uncomfortable and not work effectively.

The different types of respirator include dust masks that simply fit over your mouth and nose and are led by an elastic cord. There are also air fed respirators that feed the air from a compressor to the mask through a tube. Cartridge respirators are also known as air purifying respirators and clean the air as it comes in through the filter to your face. Chemical and gas respirators are specially designed to be used in industries where these are particular hazards. Whatever you need to keep you safe from particles in the air where you work, you will find a solution at Xamax.
